marine boat speakers??

Whats the boards take on best brand of boat speakers? I know none of them will last too long....but figured I'd ask.

I had pioneer on old boat and they lasted a good while. Have sony on current boat and have already dry rotted and busted.

SaltyShaw 04-01-2011 11:54 AM

Were they marine speakers or regular auto speakers?

None last so I buy the cheap boss ones. They sound good enough and I usually get 2 or 3 years out of them.

I'm thinking about these Kickers

If you are getting 2-3 years out of Boss spkrs, you are doing something. Yes, those are CHEAP.

Sony Marine.....these were the cheaper of the 2 they had at West Marine ($60 a pair). Lasted about 2 yrs. Supposedly the ones that are $120 a pair are much better. But this is what I have:

i spray a light coat of silicone once a year on the whole speaker. i wouldnt do that on a expensive speaker but since these are 30 a pair it really dont matter. poly planar makes a good speaker. know some guys who have had them 5+ years no problems they seem to hold up well.

fishaholic82 04-01-2011 06:06 PM

Alpines I've got 4 with a 300 watt amp on them and I can hear my music crystal clear over my 200 opti wide open. They're 3 years old and so far so good.

speckinabox 04-01-2011 08:06 PM

I just got 2 jl speakers and a Sony cd/xm deck and it cost me 700 out the door from baileys and they jam. They did a good job.
