Ye I am going to use pretty much all the colors we use here....and mostly live bait

redspeck82 07-30-2009 03:37 PM

.

Yea I know alot of people use live bait there!

eman 07-30-2009 04:44 PM

colors

Have been doing good in the surf on kevin fords favorite . chicken on a chain.
Use 4" baits to cut down on the dink trout.
Live is the easiest but gets exspensive in the ****** trout.
The top water bite has been excilent in the surf very early and very late in the day.

I just got back from GI and i never seen a place were you can catch so many 11 inch trout had to measure every fish we caught. I also got a couple reds on topwaters!!! The wind was blowin hard too made for some tuff fishin.

amen bro i dont know what happened we were catchin nice-decent fish there all summer this past weekend nothing but small trout mabey it has something to do with them having fins!!:smokin: where did yall fish??

I spoke with a buddy of mine the other day that went their during the weekend of the Tarpon Rodeo and he said the same thing....Nothing but small trout. You had one keeper 12.001" for every 20-30 caught.

redspeck82 08-04-2009 04:59 PM

Man we fished all over the island! The best places were the reefs north of the island. We didnt use any live bait might have helped dont know though.

Ray 08-04-2009 06:23 PM

We went for July 4th and if we didn't use live bait, we didn't catch anything.
When using live bait, we kept 1 fish in every 20 catches.
We fished the rocks in front of the state park, reefs behind G.I., reefs north of Grande Terre, 4 Bayou Pass then we hit some reefs farther up in the bay and 1 platform off the mouth of the ship channel. We also hit the small jetties on both sides of G.I. Those jetties are the only place we caught keeper trout.
We caught them between 4:30 and 5:00 am. After 5:00 am, the boats come out and swamp you passing and if you pull in a fish, no matter the size, they come in on you and throw thier lines all around your boat.
The only place we could find some peace and quiet, and catch fish, was way up in the bay around Hackberry Bay where we caught some reds and a couple flounder.
I will never go there again on a holiday weekend. Never...

I'm headed to GI with some friends on Aug. 21st, 22nd & 23rd.

Ray 08-05-2009 05:17 AM

My brother in law has a camp there at Tahiti East, but we have a fishing trip planned with friends on Big Lake and a party to go to the night of the 22nd. I stay busier on my days off than I do out here...

kcinnick 08-05-2009 03:37 PM

Trout were hitting anything on top of the surface this weekend. Like others said the trout were on the small side, I would say 75% of the fish caught were 11 - 11.5".

I also watched a guy catch 5 keeper trout in a row in the surf near camida pass with live shrimp, probably less than 10 minutes time.
