Anyone surf fishing Holly Beach area?

Anyone surf fishing holly beach area? whats the best bait to use?

Jordan 05-18-2011 01:55 PM

get early morning and match bait with water---muddy (black/chart) clear (bone)--for trout and reds.

after sun comes up... opening night jerk jrs or sand eels for trout. Fish rocks with spinnerbaits/spoons for reds.

Dink 05-18-2011 03:40 PM

Cut mullet carolina rigged on the bottom for reds and the occasional shark(easy Fishin)

YellowMouth7 05-19-2011 09:43 AM

according to some friends it was slow and muddy last weekend

Feesherman 05-19-2011 09:53 AM

With this blustery south wind, you'd be crazy to waste your time down there.

evidrine 05-19-2011 09:55 AM

Probably going out there a couple weekends from now. Do pretty good with fresh shrimp. Never tried artificials out there though. I see lots of people use spoons. What else you guys reccomend. Jordan, do you really use sand eels?

Topwater. But if the water is dirty, forget it. You might be able to catch some reds and gafftop in da mud with cut mullet and cracked crab.

YellowMouth7 05-19-2011 10:31 AM

I have killed on Topwater, sand eels, tsunami swimbaits, gulp, etc......all about the water....and I HATE live or dead bait. but thats just me.

Well even if the waters dirty Im still gonna go. Probably get there early, throw out a canaply, fire up the grill, and down a few cold ones while the poles are in the water. Fish, no fish, i'll have a good time.

Thats what its all about right there.

In a few weekends you'll want to be on the beach in Grand Isle....That's where Ill be! Prime time in the surf!

evidrine 05-19-2011 10:58 AM

Ive gone crabbing out there a few times, but never fished Grand Isle.

Asterisk-Rich 05-19-2011 11:02 AM

I've never caught a single fish on the beach using a sand eel...I've always found that the fish would prefer some sort of swim bait.

X2 for the surf. I like the straight tail DD Jr.

Ray 05-19-2011 12:03 PM

I use DD's, Sand Eels, Jerk Jr.s, anything sparkling, opening night or glow.
Hit topwater first, then swap to soft plastic when topwater stops.

sparkyc4 05-19-2011 03:04 PM

Wait for a North wind!!
Top water matched to water clarity (White with chartreuse head when clear and black with chartreuse head when murky) will smoke them from daybreak to about 8:15am.
