Big Lake 7/31, 8/1

Drove in from San Antonio to Lake Charles Thursday night late to meet dad. As usual, every time I come to fish the weather forecast sucks. Friday morning it's raining like crazy. Put the boat in the wather anyway when it slacks off, and sit in the rain for 2 hours. Finally get sick of it and go home for a nap. Go back out late, and it is gorgeous. 5pm and the water was slick and green. I think it was the calmest I've ever seen it. Bait jumping everywhere on the south end. Got on a late trout bite. Not a limit, but lots of fatties. Attached a cooler shot.

Saturday was crazy windy like others have side. Went out late trying t catch the late tide. 20+ wind out of the SW. Hit the marsh inside the ship channel south of Joe's Cove. Picked up a few nice reds and specks. Ended up catching several hogs around 24" but just a few trout. It was tough fishing. Pretty much all of our fish were caught on dark colored plastics. Either norton eels or Queen Cocohoes.

Tough trip from Texas, but got a few gallons to bring back for a fish-fry.

Nice slabs. Buddy of mine went on Monday (7-27) and he and his partner caught 27 trout. Seemed from TUES on the conditions got bad. Seems I picked a good week to travel to South Carolina for buisness. Plan on taking my son and 2 of his friends to either Big Lake or Dularge on TUES or WED of this week since school is about to start.

Last Thur the Lake went from mostly smooth as glass around 9-10 AM, to 1.5' waves by 2 PM.
