Need some help...

Ok, I am supposed to take my father-in-law fishing next Sunday. I've heard that Cocodrie's Islands are pretty good. I guess that'll work, although I've never been there.

Here's the advice part...

Reading the tide chart, I am confused. It shows high tide that day at 9:18 am and 1.11 ft. Low tide is like 7 or pm. That means it's a slow tide, right? Does this mean that fishing is gonna really be tough there as well? I would like to make his S. LA fishing trip a good one since he has never been and he is coming all the way from Maine (and, yes, he's bringing lobsters!:D)! Oh yeah, I'd also like to have a good one myself since I'm out of fish and the last time I got to go, I got STUCK!:shaking::rotfl:

Some insight from the regular fishermen would be appreciated!

What size boat? You have to cross some wide open waters to get to the islands.

Likely gonna take a friend's 22' fish and ski.

Also thinking I may just go back to Hopedale since I kinda know my way around.

It's a Skeeter with a 200 Yammy.

Kinda leaning that way. Not sure what to do, really. If we're in a bigger boat, I could get into some bigger water than I normally do there.

The way I understand it though, the specks are normally gone from Hopedale by this time of year. I'd gladly take a good mess of reds though!;)

Weather gurus can barley get the forecast right day to day. Don't plan your trip on the wind. You can always find a wind protected area and catch something.

Ya they there fasho...but if you wanna take a out of downer to have fun and have about a 99 % chance to catch fish take em to the rocks with live bait....the islands can turn into a upset like quick fast and in a hurry

LPfishnTIM 05-23-2011 06:48 AM

down bayou loutre to bakers canal to get around.

skeeter77346 05-23-2011 07:22 AM

The Cocodrie trout have been plentiful at the islands - soft plastics on the bottom - quick, easy limits, solid trout. Avocado red flake. Also consider Lake Boudreaux area north into the marsh. Lots of protected area - gold spoons, Zoom flukes and Ribbit frogs for reds. BTW, I believe there is a big tournament at Cocodrie that weekend. http://www.houmaoilmans.com/
Good luck.
