STAR Tagged Redfish

I heard one was caught yesterday by a customer on a charter trip in the Big Lake area (charter service to be kept nameless). They did not notice the tag until they got back to the cleaning table and noticed it BEFORE they cleaned the fish but the customer was not registered for the STAR.

inchspinner 06-15-2011 07:49 AM

I have caught two tagged redfish and never noticed until I began cleaning.
When you are in the heat of the moment you just throw em in the box.

Just seems like it would be noticeable but maybe not.
If thats the case I enhance my performance nearly every trip :)

On a serious note, I did catch two that were unnoticeable, but the tags were yellow and had Miami, FL on them.

I don't understand the folks that know they caught a tagged redfish, are not in the tourny, and yet still throw the fish in the box. Why not release it so someone that is in the tourny could have a chance? Hell release it, go sign up and then get back out der and try to catch it again.

My understanding was they did not know it was a tagged fish until they were back at the dock and the fish was dead.

I can't understand why anyone would go saltwater fishing even one time without signing up. Anytime someone comes with me, I tell them to sign up because you never know what could happen. To me, it is a small price to pay to get rewarded very well.
