Guys I'm working on getting a 1548 Alweld rig up and running and I wanted to know if a 55lb minn kota would be enough power to run around in. Right now I have a 40lb on a 1436 and I get pushed around all the time with the wind. Just curious about some input. Thanks

I have a 55 on a 16x48 and it works great. No complaints at all!

I have the 55lb on my 15x48 and its good, use to have a 45lb or somthin like that and to be honest it did about as well in the wind due to the fact that an alluminum boat is so light the wind will blow you with either. I had thought of gettin a 24v but all you gona get is more speed, I have come to the idea that the extra batteries and weight aint worth it so if I had to get another I would buy the 55lb agin. Thats just me dont know what others think.

55lb on my 1548 Allweld works just fine:)

I have a 30ld on a 1448 does good, but i miss using a 67ld great white tm.

75 pound thrust motorguide on a 1652 alweld i belive in over kill for a trolling motor gps says i do 4.5 mph

55 SW minnkota on an 18x42, if u need more than that u probably shouldn't be fishing.

Sounds great. I'm gonna get a used 55 from a guy here in town. It just peeves me off when I get in my boat I have now and the wind starts blowing a little bit and my trolling motor can't keep up. I also just didn't want something over or under powered. Thanks guys

if you can, mount battery in front or if you have to put the battery in back make sure you have heavy gauge wire and use a circuit breaker instead of fuse.

my TM came off 1fatmercs boat and he had the battery in the back vs mine is in front and he will tell you its like a totaly diff motor. By using a circuit breaker you save fuses and get better power, nothin like fighting fuses in the marsh and or wind.

If you have the proper size wire on it you shouldn't have much performance difference in front versus back. Type of battery and weight of boat and motor should have more impact in my opinion.

true but the size wire you need and length cost so much more its easier to mount in front if possible plus it helps distribute weight

Is it a special waterproof breaker or just something I can get at a hardware store. I'm familiar with house wiring, but honestly water and electricity scare the shiz outta me which is kind of ironic because in the oyster hatchery its nothing but water, pumps, and oysters....

breaker on mine is from advanced auto but its mounted in a compartment in front of my boat but its never gave me trouble. You can go to West Marine and get marine grade wire and they may sell a breaker that's made for boats if yours is out in the open. The biggest thing on boat electrical is good connections and use waterproof or sealed connectors where you can, parts store has a lot of this stuff. Is the boat you have wired already or will you have to do all wires?

I think I can mount one underneath the front deck I just didn't know if the saltwater would corrode it over time. I'm going to have to wire it up again. The guy that owned it before basically ripped everything he had on it off and I bought just the hull from him.

what kinda shape is it in and what do you want to set it up far, bass fishing or what. The reason I ask is I have same boat and it can be set up realy nice if you will spend alittle money and time.

I'm planning on having it setup for dual purpose of fishing and duck hunting. Its in great shape other than the spot that hit the fence when the guy was pulling it out his back yard. All im going to have to do is cut out the pipe from the top of the gunnel and re-weld a new pipe back in and I should be good as new. I'd appreciate any suggestions. I'm still in school so I'm planning on having this next rig for awhile until I get out of here.
