Best bait for jug lines

What is the best bait for jug lines? Going to make some up for catfish.

Go to lake Charles poultry plant and get u 5# of chicken hearts. Put em in a bucket and throw u a couple packs of liver in there to make em real bloody and give it some stink. The. Bait wit da hearts. Catfish love chicken hearts and they stay on the hook good

grandpa uses buffalo, filet it then cut it in chunks. It stays on hook well if you hook through skin and if I remember right its kinda oily

iron man 07-07-2011 01:26 PM

we use shrimp or crawfish when they become available.

other than live bream, cut bait is really good. Even did well with some chicken hearts marinated overnight in a lil garlic powder.

DUCKGOGETTER 07-07-2011 04:06 PM

Bell city drain ditch, intercoastal, lake miere and maybe lacassine bayou

Top Dawg 07-07-2011 04:11 PM

If it were me I would go wit hearts or cut mullet

DUCKGOGETTER 07-07-2011 04:16 PM

What kind of setup do you have td? Jugs, noodles etc.

elebouef 07-07-2011 04:17 PM

Heck, if you are going to Lacassine Bayou, just get there early. They will have a bunch of jug lines out for that run they are having. Pick up the fish and throw the jug back.
JUST JOKING
But really beef hearts marinated in garlic is a good bait. And what is good about the garlic is that you can leave the hearts in it with a closed container and you don't have to freeze the hearts, just put them in refrigerator.

I just us water/Gatorade bottles wit about 12-16 inches of line. If u want u can use a weight to help em drift slower. I would hang the weight on the bottom and bring the hook up about 6" from the weight.

mcjaredsandwich 07-07-2011 04:58 PM

Put some whole gizzard shad on there

CrazyD 07-07-2011 05:17 PM

I have always used cut mullet in a hurry or bream if I had time to catchem

duckman444 07-08-2011 10:13 AM

Cut mullet is good but the best is cut shad. U can't beat it. And IRS easy to find.
