If your line is in good condition, 12 lb test is all you need to catch those big fish up to 30 lb Red or Drum.
Just set the drag a little light and enjoy the fight.

Nice catch. Work the drag and also use the kayak as drag. Nothing like being pulled around by those brutes

12 lbs drag is plenty.. Trust me. I fish with 10-12 and will sling trout and reds in with no net.
Work the drag mane

all I use is 10 and 12ld line, if its flouro or berkley big game and a lot of other brands once they get a kink it will break off, Pline is a lot better, it won't break easily with a kink in the line, but its better to cut the line where there is a kink and after catching a big red, cut the line about 8 inches up and retie the knot on the hook, also change or take off about 30 yards of line after every other fishing trip. Fishing line doesn't last forever especially when your line is in the sun or in a hot shed.
