Rising Tides Awareness from Tropical Storm

Just a little local knowledge abt the ICW and Ship Channel fellas. Of course we are on the side of this storm thats gonna push water into our estuary. These rapidly rising waters have a tendency to pick up debris from the channel banks ie: trees amongst other things!! I have learned this lesson by experience. Point is, running the ship channel or ICW before safe light is extremely dangerous for a few days after storm has passed and water is getting back to normal levels. Stay alert and arrive alive and go home to your families guys. That's what its all about!! ;)

Them high tides will bring in some salty water and some fishes.
Best time to fish.
Just watch out in the ship channel when running.

Things SHOULD (dont hold me to that. i cant predict mutha nature) clear out by monday or tues. Also depends how much water gets pushed in. Heck nothing at all may happen. Just wanted people to be aware of the potential non-obvious hazards.

When the water comes in, stuff will float off the banks.
When it goes out, there will be trash for days going out.
Contraband Bayou goes all across Lake Charles. All the
trash in that bayou will go out the ship channel. And a
lot more bayous and canals will dump some trash too.

Any prediction on when or if we get the standard north wind???? My yak is coming back Sunday!!!

RAGINJROB 07-28-2011 09:22 PM

Right there with u Raymomd. Ready to fish the beach already.

PaulMyers 07-28-2011 10:08 PM

Starting to look like it will not be an issue at all. Latest prediction shows between CC and Brownsville. Max sustained winds should be only 60 mph. Generally surge will be 2-3 ft in that area.

When Hurricane Francis hit Mexico, Cameron had 4 ft. of water on the main street in town. Water also went over levees in Hackberry and flooded some impoundments.

If the storm is a big one, we can get higher than normal tides, but don't have to worry about winds.

I also saw that McAllen only had like 1/2 inch rain. They were praying for more.

Ray 07-31-2011 11:48 AM

You always have that after all these rains. City people drop stuff off in the canals and bayous all the time. When rains come, it washes it all down to the river/channel.
Olmsted Shipyard gets plugged up with branches and trash after every rain.
