Cameron Offshore

Any Tuna caught out of Cameron... never been more than 60 miles out of Cameron... understand Venice is the best but could a person catch Tuna 100 miles out this time of year??

meaux fishing 09-29-2011 09:55 AM

not sure if this is the right time of year out there though and be careful if you go out there because the flower gardens are marine sanctuarys and there are boundrys so do your research

cmdrost 09-29-2011 11:05 AM

yes it can be done. Long trips....120+ miles. Auger/Flower Gardens/Redhawk blocks.

noodle creek 09-29-2011 11:10 AM

yeah you'll have to go farther than 100. the Auger bout the closest and that'll be close to 120. Redhawk and Magnolia even farther, more like 150-170 mies. have caught small blackfin trolling about 100 miles out but were only in bout 500 feet of water, don't think that would happen very often though

Venice had over 150 tuna hit the docks last Saturday. Largest was around 196lbs I think.

Split the difference. Trailer the boat to cocodrie or fourchon

I've done both several times. We've calculated it up. Its about the same either way.

I will say it is much nicer to get off the boat at your home dock than having to drive back 5 hrs. I wish it got deeper closer in here!!

fishinpox 09-30-2011 09:31 AM

Trailer it, and stay a kingfish lodge and DO NOT run down south pass take SW instead because south pass has silted in very bad

spotsurfer 09-30-2011 07:47 PM

If you have the boat to stay over-night make a 2 day trip in a smaller boat it be better to go to Venice. The canyon is only 30 miles you be in 1200 ft. of water. The furthers I been out of Cameron was 70 miles that to far in 1 day. and you are nowhere near 1200 ft.
I live in Vermilion most of the time we go out of Freshwater-city. To SM 69 which has 88 ft. of water and is 68 miles out

Ray 09-30-2011 07:49 PM

I worked out of Cameron for 13 years. 95 miles out was about 200+ ft., 105 miles out was about 300+ ft.

fishinpox 09-30-2011 08:40 PM

I snapper fish in Venice sp57 is 150 ft of water within sight of sw pass
