Triple Tail, Ling, And Big Trout

3 Attachment(s)
The rigs just off the coast are jammed up with nice trout right now. Key is positioning up-current and having both mullet and shrimp. Just to be sure. The Triple Tail and Ling are both in-close now.

We left today at 12:00 and the Gulf was glass we got finger mullet and headed SW- found grass right out of jetty's and landed our first trip- 5lb.'s then saw a monster 15+ sun bathing in open water threw my live shrimp over his back and he followed it for a minute then lost interest I was devistated. He went back deep and never came up again.

The Ling were 5 miles off-shore at the same rig we caught our limit of trout in. We landed 2 out of hooking up to 4- all on trout rods.
Did have some trout around 5lb.'s but all were slab's!

My dad fished the beach early this morning and said he did not even step in the water and caught his limit of trout and one huge trout that broke his old spook off after 4 long runs- Said he saw her back a ways out ..monster!!

We got stuck at that rig yesterday afternoon with a huge storm sitting over the Cameron Jetty's and one coming from Sabine- lucky enough the one over Cameron pushed East quick enough for us to get through. I HATE being out there in that lightning especially in the Gulf, feel like a sitting duck..

We went out Friday looking for ling and trips too, saw none caught none....bad weather too. Found no grass...followed bouy chain all the way out. Hit a few rigs too. Crappy outing. Glad you had a good one!

That was a real good report! Very helpful to someone who might want to go try his luck. How do you position yourself up current - do you anchor or do you try to hold in place with the trolling motor?

exspeck big specks 08-31-2009 02:20 PM

Go up-current with trolling motor usually to try to locate the school of trout then go way up-current drop anchor, let it catch then drop out additional line to get you right up on the rig..
