Weld Bilt 16/52
 

I am looking at a used WeldBilt 16/52, semi v. I have a tohatsu tldi 40 that I will be putting on it. Does anybody have any experience with this boat? Pros or cons?

I have the welbuilt 15/48 with a 40 yamaha and luv it..best little boat ive ever owned. Ive beat on it for 4 years now running the bayous around my house and havent even put a dent in any of the ribs underneath. Absolutely worth buying.

I got a 16/52 alweld with a 40 tldi i run about 32-33 mph with a 13pitch prop no jack plate love fishing out of that wide bottom boat very stable

Great boat. If you are looking for performance you may consider a 44" bottom. A 16 x 44 runs great with a 3-cylinder 25 or 40. Good luck...

Just got rid of my 1552 WeldBilt. Last year, pulled the floor up and found 30 broken welds. Buddy of mine had his break EVERY weld on the floor, split the bottom about 2' long 1" wide at the rear, sank the boat at the launch. Heard of several others having the same problem. Ha and I now own .100 gauge boats, just sayin.
Every 16' boat we have set up is about 2-4 mph slower than a 15' of the same make. Unless you absolutely have to have that extra foot, 15' is faster.

Yep D. Same thing happened to me. Every weld broke and 2' split right down the middle and I almost sank. Would not advise buying a weldbuilt after my experience.

I had a couple of Weldcraft boats. Not sure if they are still in business.
They are tough boats.
Be sure to get a boat with ribs no more than 12" apart.
Any more than that, you are wasting your money.

Last I checked they were. That's what I wished I would've bought.

Grandpa just bought a new WeldCraft...Lake Area sells them

he has a Pink Alweld with a chunk of worthless dead weight bolted to back...well not worthless since he has alot tied up in but it still dont work

I thought alweld made a good boat? The color can be changed and maybe the mechanic too.

They do but there's a long story on mine. They rushed building it and the craftsmanship sucks on it.

I've got a 2011 alweld 15x52 with a 2010 tohatsu 50 TLDI short shaft with a tiller which I must say this a dam nice boat.GPS is 39.1 crappy aluminum prop I owned a 14 carolina skiff before this and i hated it and took a loss on it.

The alweld seems to be built pretty well, all the major gussets are tig welded, well pretty much all the bottom of the boat is tig welded but the braces and other stuff are actually mig welded on the inside. I kinda wish it was all tig welded, if you're gonna say your boats are tig welded well hell you need to say the entire thing. Couple things i wish I ordered different like the seat I wish wasn't so wide in the back but it's cool you live and learn.

Really happy with it so far but I have learned if you truly want a kickass built boat you must build it yourself which I plan on doing with my next boat which will just be built for speed. I don't think I will ever sell the alweld, really am happy with it.

I checked out the south fork boats before the alweld and being a welder i was not impressed at all with the welds on there boats, it looked like a first grader went at it. I can't lie i'm really annal retenant and I want stuff done right.

The alweld wasn't as flat as I would have liked on the bottom but being 100 gauge aluminum it's gotta e hard to keep it nice and flat with no warpage.

I actually applied to your older thread from July which I hope you can help me out on about the restrictor plate.

I have a 1980 16/44 lowes. Motor aint runnin right now but its a great boat. Cant wait till i have some money, probably gonna get a 25 for it.

My dad has a 1980 1648 lowes that in 05 he put a Merc 40 on it. The only thing bad bout da boat is it a wet running boat.

Its a little wet, mod v here. Slick days and winds up to 10 arent bad.
