Don't pull it straight, when you pulling a trawl I. Shallow water you have to go side to side to keep the prop wash out of it. Whoever said you can only keep crabs and shrimp was correct

Delcambre Direct Seafood
Buy straight from the boats. http://www.portofdelcambre.com/index...id=4&Itemid=30 |
You can buy a lot of shrimp poboys for the cost and trouble of catching shrimp with a 12 foot trawl. Just wait until fall and cast net them. $3 a pound is a good deal.

thanks guys it works fine no trouble
I will try the side to side. And thanks I kept only swimp and cwabs Did get a stingray and worried all day about dolphins getting in net.Lol........... And the story continues |
Nice catch.

I pull at around seven MPH right to left............zig zag and pull for 20 minutes or so at a time. It's a ton of work but really enjoyable to me.
I pull for less time when I want to catch for live bait. |

You may be pulling a little to quick for a 12' net. You may be pulling the net off the bottom at that speed. When I was shrimping with a 40' trawl, I would pull about the speed you posted. On the bigger boats pulling for white shrimp they pull about 3-4 knots and about 2.5-3 knots for brownies. Also, if you use a tickle chain on your net it may improve your catch. Warren |

what a great thread thanks guys!
went again same just more crabs "me and the gulf had a fight today i got beat up purty good but i got away with crabs and shrimp" |
I know we pull a 25 ft net out of intracoastal during the may and june shrimp season and we have a commercial shrimp license so we get to keep all the flounders but we don't pull our net very fast either about 2 knts but we'll shrimp from 7 am to about 2 pm and we'll manage 100-150 lbs roughly and about 10-16 dozen crabs.
