4 stroke oil change
First 4 stroke Ive owned. I wanna change the oil. Motor is a Yamaha 115. Do they sell a oil change kit. From what it looks like it will be a oily mess. Maybe theres some tricks to doing this without all the mess? Any tips would be appreciated.

I did my own oil change at 20 and 100 hrs on my yammy 4 stroke 225.
I watched a you tube video. It was easy. Run the engine for a few minutes prior to the process of changing oil. It will warm up and flow out better and empty all the oil. If not the oil will flow slow and some will remain. Have a oil filter gripper to make removing the oil filter easier. Put a rag under the oil dump spout, there is a hose that u can buy to make this even cleaner and easier. After then old oil is all gone, put plug back in and fill up with the right amount. Let the engine sit in a tucked position for about 10 minutes then run ur engine. Let it settle for 20 minutes and check the dip stick. Add oil if needed. |
I normally tilt motor up so oil doesn't run all the way down lower unit, & what oil does run down I clean up with a rag & carb cleaner.

I was reading on another board about this, he recommended to loosen oil filter some so no oil comes out then put a zip lock bag over it, then take filter off in bag.

I used a small metal trough (3 in bottgom & 1 inch sides 12 inches long)to catch the oil off the filter when I removed it;this poured into a bucket . I would slowly tip engin up to make sure I got all the oil from the filter then pull the filter out with rags already under it just Incase some was left.
