Lawn mower advice

I will be in the market for a new mower very soon and looks like ive narrowed my choices down to either a gravely or bad boy. Im sure most of yall have more experience with gravely than bad boy but i would appreciate any and all opnions. Thanks

Both are great mowers. I would have said get the Gravely if Johnny still owned BMC in Westlake. His service was very good. The new owners are nothing like Johnny was. (I will qualify this by saying my wife worked at BMC for 15 years including 1.5 years with the new owners. She left because she couldn't stand to see a business that she helped build get torn apart the way it was.)
Who in town sells the Bad Boy?

Not sure about either but, my Scag has done me well and, mower to mower, was about $2k less than the Bad Boy I looked at. Nothing special, just cost effective and quality.

My dad has a gravely and uncle has bad boy, both are nice but that bad boy is a hoss. I'm sure they would both let you test drive them as long as you did the whole yard!!!

Got a Gravely 2042. Cut almost 2 acres in 40ish minutes. Had.it 3 years and no major issues yet.

We have had a gravely for probably 15 years and we cut around 2 acres at a time. Also use it to cut fencelines in the fields. Had to do some maintenance on it over the years but overall good mower. But if the service dept sucks at your local dealer I would go somewhere else.

I am into the second season of cutting with a Bad Boy Outlaw mower. No issues at all.....:D Extremely powerful and heavy duty steel. 31 hp Kawasaki....Well built machine.......

Get the bobcat with the 37 horse and the 72in deck. When they run right try can't be beat. Lol

I just bought a push mower. I called BMC to get prices and to see what they sold. They lady that answered the phone was so rude that I didn't care what they sold. I wasn't doing business with them. I bought my mower from Cutters in Lake Charles and was very happy with there service. If I'm not mistaking they sell Bad Boys.

Don't get me wrong, I have a Gravely and love it. I have the 144z from their professional line. It works fine and cuts great. We have put about 250 hours on it in the past 9 or 10 years and it still looks brand new. The Scag mowers are excellent mowers also.

Good luck in your search! Much like rods and reels, everybody likes the one they have.

I have had 4 commercial ztr mowers and the best I ever owned were my Kubota machines, one was a 48" with gas engine and other was 60" with diesel engine.... others were Dixie Chopper- trash in my opinion and Toro which was decent and I have put close to 4000 between all these.

I have had the Gravely ZT 48 XL for 2 years and so far no troubles. I love the 23 horsepower Kawasaki on it. Got a buddy who has the Bad Boy and he loves it. Either way you cant go wrong

My neighbor has a Gravely that is less than a year old and the paint is flaking off the frame and deck. He takes very good care of his mower and does not abuse it. BMC didn't act too enthusiastic to help him. Gravely rep is supposed to be in town soon to look at it.

I just bought a weedeater from them and couldn't be more pleased with the way I was treated. They even gave me a loaner to decide which brand I liked better.

I have a husqvarna 54" with a 24hp kohler and I love it. I cut 1.9 acres in 45 minutes. Great on gas too.

Ducktrickster 03-24-2012 07:21 AM

Love my Gravely. It's been through hell. My wife thinks its an atv at mudfest and a stump grinder. Cut 3 acres and never a problem in 2 years.

bigl3456 03-24-2012 07:22 AM
