Almost Finished

2 Attachment(s)
Just wanted to share a few pics of my "almost finished" boat. Still have a few misc. things to do. As most of ya'll may know, I was given a boat and motor, but no trailer. I found an older 50's model trailer and re-modeled it. See http://www.saltycajun.com/forum/show...ghlight=jordan for the story

Anyways, I got the boat and motor on the trailer. After just 1 pull, the old merc purred to life after 5 years sitting in a barn. Managed to find the original gas tank that came with the motor also. Running Non-Ethanol gas at a 50:1 ratio makes this puppy purr like a kitten.

Will add more pics at a later time when I add different items to boat and trailer.

I had an old 20 HP Merc that looked like that.
It ran for 13 years, then the foot crapped out.
Come to find out, I got some mono behind the
prop and it ate the seal out, letting water in the
foot. Where I ran it, there were no fishermen, at
least none were supposed to be there.
I wanted more power, so sold it as is and bought
a 25 HP.
Them old Merc's will run forever if you mix gas right
and change plugs now and then.

Thank you all. It is a riveted boat. Going to put it in the lake Sunday to see how many rivets are actually leaking. After I get that part taken care of, I plan on sanding it all down and camo'ing it all out. After that, I will upgrade to LED lights in the boat and on the trailer. Its a project in the making, just takes more $ than time.

nice lil setup I like that trailer. the fenders are cool

retro style. It has a coil and shock suspension, no leaf springs here. the tongue on the trailer was 1 and 25/32". Cant find them balls anymore.

Take it off trailer & set it a couple saw horses put about 6"-8" of water in it with water hose & mark each rivet that is leaking with a sharpie. Much easier to the leaks if you have any. Hopefully not

Great idea. I have an old boat I need to do that with at the camp.

A friend of mine back in the 80s had a 69 20 merc that was stolen at his camp off south perkins. It was found 6 months later in the river when the water got real low. We drained the head changed the plugs, coil, and cleaned the carbs. It fired up and ran for yrs after that. Cool rig Jorden thats a classic.

Bluechip 04-09-2012 02:24 PM

How was the maiden voyage?

Jordan 04-09-2012 04:22 PM

6" of water in the boat in 2 hours. It was fine, looking for an all-weld boat. Motor ran a whopping 6.3mph

Bluechip 04-09-2012 04:24 PM

Uughhhh....stay after it bro!!
