sac au laits near lake Charles or Cameron?

Well I finally got my boat up and running, been hitting the south fork of black bayou as thats the closest water to my house. Id really like to get a load of sac au laits. I know they are in the calcasieu river just wondering if theres any closer towards Cameron as I dont wanna drive all the way to Sam Houston park right now. Im not familar with the area so if you can be a little extra detailed it would help alot.. Ive been lookin on google maps and see plenty of lakes and ponds just dont know whats in them or if there fishable....

You don't have to drive to sam houston park to fish the river... Launch at Saltwater Barrier

Keywest18 04-06-2012 05:01 PM

Thats true. I just dont want a long boat ride until I get more used to the area

Any freshwater fish were wiped out in Cameron/Creole area for Rita and Ike.
You might find a few around Grand Chenier, or along the ICW marshes/bayous.

I didnt think there would be any in the icw if theyre not in black bayou. The icw is only like a 3 minute boat ride from where I launch at. Im gonna stidy google maps a little and see what I can find. Has anybody fished willow lake? It doesnt look like you can enter it from the icw on google maps?

You might try the bell city drainage ditch. I heard they were catching some white perch there last month.

Where is that located?

Its off hwy 14. Turn right on Fruge then left on Rosingnol Road. Launch at the bridge. 2 weeks ago we caught a few on JD Courtney jigs. Silver and white 1/16th oz did best. 18in under poping cork from the bank to 5ft from bank.

Talked to my cousin while ago. Last Wednesday's Creole Dog Fight had 17 fishermen catching 4 small Bass. There was a first and a second place only. Trash fish was 2 Redfish.
Most of these are guys who live down there and fished the area all their lives. Most say what I said farther up this thread. Freshwater fishing down in lower Cameron Parish sux since Rita and Ike.

You can catch some fish in bass, bream and white perch in Miami Corp on the south end off Humble ditch .... My dad went last week and caught 16 Bass 5 reds ..saw a bunch of bait

huntin fool 04-09-2012 06:15 PM

There's still fish down there. Not near the fish, but there is. Should have seen the bass pulled out of Johnson Bayou before the storms..

dont know how good you know this area but you can catch bass and bream in these parts......
You will have to come from Gibstown unless you know someone with a camp on Little Chenier road...

My old man made two trips and caught good numbers both times

saute86 04-09-2012 06:46 PM

I use to fish those areas back in the mid 90's and load the ice chest with fish every trip.

Not true I fish them dogfights...last week almost every boat had a limit of fish. Most of them guys tell everyone their not catching fish. The fishing is tough down there just gotta know where to go

Ray 04-09-2012 08:31 PM

Loston said the same thing as my cousin. He posts the results on the local paper down there.
My cousin and his partner won first place last week. With 2 fish.

I agree with that... My family has a camp on the ridge and they are catching plenty of bass and bream

Still have lots of fish down in Cameron Parish

Ray 04-09-2012 09:17 PM

I was wrong. My cousin and partner took second place, with 1 fish.
First place was 2 fish. That was last Wednesday.
There may be plenty in your opinion, but not near as many as before the hurricanes.
The local Bass club down there started fishing the Calcasieu for their tournaments cause Amoco and Burns were slow.
I'd hafta take the word of the guys who fished them waters all their lives.

That was the first week, last week everybody caught fish. And I'm in that bass club we didn't start fishing the river cause the Marshs were slow, we voted laccasine out after last year and we voted to replace it with the river for something new. Yes it's no where near as good as before the hurricanes.

Nothing is a good as before the hurricane .....big lake was until they plugged the blow outs
