need Suzuki help
 

Who works on small (25hp) Suzuki motors in the moss bluff area? I recall some discussion a while back about a guy who specializes in them.

Problem I am having: Electric start wont work. Slight short click every once in a while when I turn key. Battery 100% good. had it tested at o'reileys this am.

Thing is that it started 3 weeks ago before I took it off boat to have it repainted. I am dumbfounded and frustrated.

any suggestions?

Check solenoids

where?

There should be a wire coming from the starter to the solenoid. The solenoid has 2 terminals. More than likely, it's where your clicking is coming from

It should look something like this. You can get a new one at oriellys, any 12 v starter solenoid should work

Arc it with a screwdriver by placing it between the two terminals connecting them. If it turns over then, just replace the solenoid and you should be good

found it. what now? jiggled it and tried to cross the connectors witha screwdriver. nothing. did get more clicking when turned key after i messed with it.

Tap on the starter with a small hammer while trying to start.
The solenoid may be stuck. Or the bendix is not engaging.
If that don't work, then remove the wires from the starter and
solenoid and clean them real good. Make them shine before
re-installing.

did hammer trick. nada.

Pull the starter and get it checked. If shorting out the solenoid don't work, it may be the starter.
Shorting should put 12 volts straight to the starter.
Does the starter get hot when trying to start it?
If it gets hot, it may be froze up.
If it stays cold, it may have open windings.

all connections are as clean as a whistle. had the starter serviced before duck season by Jake in Carlyss. he told me that the "fins" on the starter may have a few bad spots. but it worked 3 weeks ago!!!!!!:headknocker:

if lake area marine was open i'd go buy me a new 40 hp tohatso dfi!

starter is not getting hot.

That is not good. You can have them rebuilt.
Not sure if you can still get a new one for the old 3 cyl. Zuki.
You ruled out the solenoid when you bypassed it.
You checked out the battery wire? Try using jumper cables from the battery to the starter, bypassing the solenoid.

Check the ground wire on the battery and where it ties to engine block

Just now read this.......let me know tomorrow if you are still trying to figure out the problem and I will come over to take a look.

There has been several good suggestions of things to check..... one of them should be your problem, and not hard to fix at your house.
