Catfish Mount Reccomendations.

Can ya'll reccomend a top notch catfish taxidermist? I'm looking for top quality, not necessarily the cheapest price. I have seen a couple of catfish mounts that look horrible, and this will be a gift, so I want it to look good. Also it will be a replica, since all I have is pics and no fish to do a skin mount with.

Never seen a catfish mount but all my tax work goes to claude ray with southern sportsman tax. He does top notch work on everything I've seen. He treats each piece like it was goin in his own house. Does fine work. He's done a bass, a buck, and has my duck right now. He's the only one I trust. He's a little ways from Texas though. He's in Livingston Louisiana. But since it's a replica you'd prolly only have to make one trip to pick it up or he could really prolly just box it up real safe and ship that too

Steve German can probably do an excellent job. He's right here in Lake Charles. I don't know if he's done a catfish, but I promise you it turns out amazing! World class.

I was told in the past that you cant acutally mount a catfish, they do replicas according to size and then paint them.... I was told this a few yrs ago and it may have changed but thats how it use to be. So what size fish are you mounting?

Yeah, I have never seen a real catfish mount. Several in restaurants but they were replicas. Seems like it would be an extremely tedious chore to not cut the skin when cleaning them, lack of scales doesn't give you much freedom if you do mess up, and the skin when drying would not be able to be stretched out again.

these are all assumptions made on my part, I am in know way an expert, I am not a licensed taxidermist, I do know 2 taxidermists however we have never talked about catfish mounts, i have not stayed in a Holiday Inn in quite some time, in know way do I know what I am talking about, it just seems logical, and this advice should be taken with a grain of salt if you even read this:)

Funny stuff right there. That's why I love the site, most people on here seem to have the same smart azz attitude that I have. And that's one reason why my wife would hate it!

My wife laughs about half the time, other times it gets to her:rotfl:

And, I can't let a taxidermy thread go by without inserting this gem!

Official Ojai Valley Taxidermy TV Commercial - YouTube

I have seen that posted on a few Indiana forums. What is the story with that guy?
