While deep dropping in 600 feet of water we found 5 of these up to 5.1 pounds. I have had a lot of guesses but no deffinate answers. Some of them called them a yellowtail sea bass. It has the scale structure of a sea bass and the meat isjust like a northern sea bass so I think we have it but I could not find a picture of one in my fish ID book.
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.

Longtail sea bass. Believe state record is 5.6 I had a 4.9 and a 5.1 out of the 5 we landed deep jiging. They live in 600-1200 foot depths. That is the information I have found out. It may be a rod and reel record but not reported.
