Help please on boat
 

Anybody ever replaced the flooring on a bay boat? If so please chime in any pointers and whatever info you have. Thanks!

you mean refiberglass it? That is a a big task especially if you have never done any glass work. Look for a video tutorial on youtube I'm sure there is one. Also dont get any of the fiberglass resin on your skin and do it in a well ventilated area. Its some nasty chemicals in that stuff

Hey thanks. I've worked a lil bit with the bonding fiberglass kits. Wasn't bad but what if I wanted to replace the wood underneath? Would I have to remove the center console?

Yes, you would....I suggest trying to find some "how too" videos on you tube.

depends on where your rot is and how bad it is but probably

they do have some good videos on youtube....it will be a very serious job, removing the console is a must to do it right...also for marine applications your not going to be able to use your parts house fiberglass kits. You will need to get polyester resins and mat. Price some of the materials on say, WestMarine an then get a quote from a fiberglass shop before hacking into your boat. Its going to cost you more to do it yourself than what you think & if the floor is bad I would bet your going to have some stringer issues and possibly lower transom rot also. If you have decent skills in paint/body work and familiar with the chemicals, get some videos and fire up the saw!! If not it may be over your head and cheaper in the long run to just have it done.

If you do end up removing the console and doing the whole floor I would suggest glassing the console back to the floor instead of just bolting it

Big job!! Should be fun tho! Marine plywood is high dolla! The resin is cheap by the gallon, and id recomend getting the "weaved" mat fiberglass and lay many layers!! Its a nasty, sticky, smelly job! DO NOT DO IT IN A CLOSED AREA!!!!!

I thought I was just gonna havr to replace the transom in my boat. Tore it out and had to replace a 4' section of the floor.we just used exterior plywood and coated it with resin. Then went over the top with a layer of woven and a layer of regular mat.my skiff wasnt too bad but I think a bay boat would be alot harder. But as stated before make sure you're in a well ventilated area and I woukd try to grt someone who has experoence with boats to help and show you, thats what I did
