Bank fishing

Where is a good spot to fish off the bank near the lafayette area. Some wat between maybe cypermorte point to at least price lake road. And was wondering if you can fish from rockerfellers bank or price lake road because of the construction. And info would help.

If you go about 10 miles passed Rockefeller [west] to the Mermentau river, there is fairly good Red fishing from the bank.

Can you still fish under the bridge? Are there any other publicly accessible spots besides by the boat launch?

When you get to the Mermentau River Bridge, cross over to the West side and take a right as soon as you get off the bridge. You will see a shell bank on the right(West side of river). Lots of fishermen and crabbers fish there.
Keep going North and take the first right(East) and you will pass thru a gas plant. Keep going till you get to a spot with rocks right along the road, which will be on your right hand side. That is the TA Fawver rocks. They hold good Reds too.

Caught over 20 reds at mermentau on the bank two weekends ago on live bait. Lots of crabs too....falling tide is key

Thanks, I used to fish the mermentau a fair amount from a boat and usually did well. Never tried from the side of the road, but it sounds like a good, quick trip.

We made a ride out to Rockefeller yesterday. It was my first time out there so we didn't do all that well. Few drum, specks, and a whollllle lot of hardheads. I didn't know anything about going 10 more miles to the river. We fished mostly price lake rd and by the Joseph boat launch.

For next time, should I just keep on driving until I get to the river or do yall have any other suggestions?

Certain times of the year you can tear up the specks right by the launch at josephs harbor. Live shrimp about 3 foot under a cork works best but I have caught them on plastic cocahoes too. If you pass up the rock you will see the grand chenier library, dont blink or you will not see it. Not far past that just before the mermentau bridge there is a old crab dock on the right with pilings. There is a posted sign on a tree but I have been there several times and nobody told me anything. See other people fishing there as well. Mostly redfish, drum, and plenty of crabs at that spot. You used to be able to fish right under the bridge off the bank but they fenced the area in. There is another area just north of the bridge but it is really nasty from people littering and old crab lines. Such a shame how some people have no respect.

A friend of mine caught a couple 6 lb trout last August at joesph harbor bank fishing right off the road

I don't doubt it one bit.....sure does not look like a good spot for trout but they seem to like it for some reason.

I wondered something about bank fishing. I do it at work when I have down time.

Can a fish be entered into the star tournament if it was caught bank fishing? The rules all pertain to fishing out of a boat.

Yes you can enter your fish in the star. JR won a boat w/ a bank caught trout out of grand isle.
