Diving out of Freshwater City , LA

Well decided to get dive certified, took the classes with S and L divers in Abbeville, La. Dane Motty owner of the dive shop is a great guy, great instructor. Did the classes and pool work during the week after work. We made a trip offshore in his 28' Pro Sport cat hull to do the Open Water Sesssion. I'm hooked!!!! have one more dive to do to finish the certification. Check out his website www.SandLdivers.com

Here a video i took on the two dive of the day has a lil spearfishing in it too.

sweet video... What does it cost to get certified? What kind of costs are you looking at to get started?

It's certainly an addicting hobby. But I had to quit. Too pricey with all the other hobbies I have

FF- yeah its a lil pricey but am not planning on Diving every weekend, two or three trips a year during snapper season. Maybe some dives on Vacation in Florida or the inlands.
Meaux, the class was 300.00, covers books, regs., BC, tanks for the training and open water dives. The trip offshore you just split the gas and you get some fish to take home with you. The only gear you need is a mask, fins, and booty, and snorkel.

I need to give them a call, I have been diving for years and never found a dive shop in Louisiana that i wanted to dive with.

You should look into making a trip to the Flower Gardens on one of the liveaboards. Will blow your mind. I have dove the Caribbean and Brazil and Flower gardens still make my top 5.

I got my open water certification back in 1983 with the old "Dolphin Dive Shop" in Lafayette. Mr. Ed Roy (KATC) was one of my instructors and I was 15. I went on to get search & recovery and cave certs, and as time and kids came around, it went to the way side. Now, my wife wants to try it so I guess we will get some water time in the future.

Two questions:
1)- was this your check out dive, or first rig dive?
2)- what camera was doing the filming?

IslandRunner 06-28-2012 03:13 PM

Fin- yeah this was my first open water dives for my cert. we made three dives that day, have to do my fouth and final dive on a different trip to finish my certifiation. this was my second dive, i loved it!!!! am hooked for sure! i have a GoPro Hero 2 HD. I its good up to 197ft. takes great video, i was filming in 960p so i could get more video but it can video in 1080p HD.
Crawl- give him a call or better send him a email, he work 14/14 offshore on top of having his dive shop.
