scared of water

I have a 5 month old lab that's skittish around water. I'm not very experienced at training hunting dogs so i could use any advice. I introduced him to water at 2 months old and from the first time he was very nervous. almost unsure of himself. I have consistently tried to coax him into the water to retrieve but no luck getting him to go in on his own. i've also had him sit next to me and toss in the duck and force him in and once he's in he seems really relaxed and swims better and better. Just haven't had luck getting him to volunteer to jump in the water so help if you have advice. thanks.:help::help:

Get in the water and have him swim to you - he will. Once he does that a few times you will not keep him out the water:)

Yeah water dog, thats one route, or look up Grahams youtube videos, or Lardy
's Total retriever training. I'd say jump in and swim with him, he shouldnt be able to resist and it'll be a lot more comfortable than sweating in some waders.

Start small and don't go in water he can't touch in. Gradually increase the depth.

Really not sure how I would handle since Ritz is the first dog I have owned that loves water, loves water!! Would try the stand by of a slow introduction and if that didn't work I would go to the drop them in the deep end and paddle away.
