Confused

Finally get to go fishing and do not know where to start. The wier's, east bank, turners, or just chase birds..alittle advice would be nice

Work banks on south end and the old jettys, hit the birds if you see em, use pearls or glow/chart tails....good luck

Base it off tide movement, wind direction, water color, etc. Wiers are closed periodically, sw wind past couple days..

Is there any way to know if the wiers will be open?

inchspinner 07-05-2012 09:24 AM

Not without contacting wild life and fisheries

bighead7 07-05-2012 09:30 AM

wind at 7:00 am is supposed to be NW 2mph and by 10:00 SSW 4mph and 7 to 9 around 1:00pm

how about the top water bite and how long should you try?

There is a recording that tells you if the Grand Bayou weir is open or closed. You can call this number any time.

Lots of birds working right out in front of Hebert's. Topwater bite has been pretty slow last week or 2. I wouldn't throw it for long. I have been throwing Corky's after 7am or so and doing better on them than topwater. I haven't caught a trout on top in like 3 straight trips.

Fish the ship channel along the rocks, top water early for nice specks, then by 7:30 or 8 try deeper anything north of 9 mile on ship channel is good. Reds and flounder are in there too. It's getting to hot and they are going deeper. Water in the ship channel is always pretty.
Good Luck

corky's are live shrip?

ragincajun327 07-05-2012 01:08 PM

No. Paul Brown Original Corky lures

I throw the Fatboys. Pearl/Chart But I'm sure a catch 2000 or bomber (suspending bait) would produce too.

Will the sand eel with a 16th oz jig head do about the same
