Air-Soft Pellet-Rifle
My son is turning 8 in a few weeks and wants a pellet rifle or an air-soft gun. I would rather get him a rifle type gun so he can get use to looking through a scope and shooting accurately being he will be deer hunting in a few years. He has a .22 Marlin Model 70 with a Simmons scope on it that he can shoot fairly well but he can't shoot often because I live in a subdivision.
My budget is under $200. Whats a good one. |
Gamo Big Cat pellet rifle, comes with scope. Made for adults but if he is already trained on a .22 he should be ok. With the .177 round, 1 **** shoots around 1000 to 1200 fps. I shoot mine in my back yard all the time.

They run around $170

I saw that one on academies website. Is the scope decent, can you dial it in pretty good?

My dad bought the boys some guns that are electric and full auto, 660 fps. My only suggestion is to put the fear of God in him because they look like the real deal. If the urange tip is painted black it will get the po po's attention quick. Will post a pic of Hunter's gun tomorrow.

my dad has a Gamo that shoots the air shot shells and its fun as hell...its a well made gun...I would go with a Gamo for sure..

My son is eight and I wanted to get him started in pistol shooting. I bought the Airsoft thinking it would be safer since we live in a neighbor. After shooting it that afternoon I went and bought a CO2 pistol that shoots bb's. The Airsoft lacked consistency and was way off after about 20 feet. I can shoot bottle caps with the BB pistol at that distance.

After looking at them I think I will go with the Gamo (Made in Spain) over the ohers mostly made in China. In .177 caliber. Probably get him this one... http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/st...0051_255946_-1

swamp!
thats the same gun my 10 year old shoots.... he loves it, and he's gotten better at his 243 since he started shooting this in the back yard off season! |
cant go wrong with the benjamin pump. i used to shoot several "doves" in the tallow trees during the winter with mine as a kid. i don't know if you can mount a scope on it though, i always used iron sights. i prefer the 22 caliber to the 177
