The point

Anyone been to the bay this week

Reefman 07-27-2012 03:37 PM

WAS going this afternoon........ Hate lightning and 40 knot winds; hope to go tomorrow instead. Fishing just the bay..haven't been in a few weeks, going scouting all over to narrow down for Sunday. Will post the good or the bad. I do know the birds have started pecking but the trout are real small. I think the well heads will be the ticket.

Yep! Last time I went was right after a big storm in the afternoon. The Bay laid down quickly with an overcast sky and falling tide. Margarita bass assassins worked fast did the trick. Nothing big but didn't have to measure.

Hmmm never tried that. Just like rig hopping? Just hit one throw at it retrieve if nothing hits move on?

I fan cast around and away from the well heads. Those shell pads can run far off from the actual well heads. Many times fish are caught casting away from the well itself. I'll spend at least 15 minutes fishing each well head that I have confidence in before moving on to another.

thats a good idea, never even tried by them before. it's such a big area out there, I end up running around more than fishing! this rain sucks! just went to pick up a dryer at sears in lafayette, and ambassador is flooded, water got up to the bumper of my truck in the right lane!

I went to the bay today. Best thing is I have no fish to clean; again. How often do you have to go fishing to ever do well at the Point.

Fished with wife Sunday mid-day in the Dry Reef area. Caught 10 trout, along with 4 whites. She caught most of the fish using Margarita assassins. Fished for only 2 hours...got a little choppy for her comfort level so we came on in. Still a great day to be out there.

Fished late Saturday afternoon in Fearman Lake caught a couple reds before the bottom dropped out. Had to make a run to the game wardens boathouse and sit it out for an hour. Water in the lake very fresh very dirty. Saw some big gar rolling and messed with them the last hour. Had several take the bait but was just too impatient to let em eat it. I am gonna catch one of those big SOBs soon, just want to put my hands on one:) Bringing some bigger tackle next time and some patience, just can't stand to see a cork go down and taking line and not set the hook

did catch quite a few shrimp at the weir right there, just trying to catch finger mullet for the reds, ended up with some nice live shrimp. Shoulda stayed there and tried to keep some to eat, coulda picked thru the small ones and had a little mess

some big ol gators swimming on that side of the bay:eek:
