It's taking over our marsh. There wasn't nearly as much last time now it's everywhere. Anyone know what it is?

eman 08-04-2012 05:52 PM

giant salvina i think.

eman 08-04-2012 05:54 PM

If it is salvina the area will soon look like solid ground. Will totally ruin a duck marsh.
the ducks can't see water so they don't try to land.

jchief 08-04-2012 05:56 PM

Don't think it is Salvina.

jchief 08-04-2012 05:58 PM

We sprayed it but couldn't get all of it because there is soooo darn much I mean it's everywhere. It's taking over for sure I hope it dies from spray but if not we r screwed

bgizzle 08-04-2012 06:04 PM

That's the best pic I could get its everywhere. Like I said we sprayed as much as we cluld

Starting to think its salvinia minima aka water fern... Aka Sux bad. Can't really poison it because it's endless marsh and it's as far as I could see. I sprayed our pond and just gonna hope for the best. Hopefully it will die in the winter

latravcha 08-04-2012 10:07 PM

It will not die in the winter. We sprayed it with several different chemicals in our duck ponds with no luck.

huntin fool 08-04-2012 10:13 PM

Not good..

Duck Butter 08-04-2012 10:14 PM

Not salvinia which is good, looks like frog's bit Limnobium spongia. Could be a pondweed can't really tell how large the plant is, if its less than 3 inches across its probably frogs bit. If bigger, its a pondweed. Frogs bit is native, not sure if ducks eat it but they probably do

bgizzle 08-04-2012 10:59 PM

So it's good I'd bad?

bgizzle 08-04-2012 11:03 PM

They leaves are approx the size of half dollar

BossHog 08-05-2012 02:10 AM

Not sure of the name but that is actually some of the best duck feed around. We transplant and grow that around alot of our blinds every year. If u pull up the roots there will be some small white seeds which is what the ducks eat.

Its difficult to tell exaclty which plant you have until it flowers, looks like young frogs bit though

bgizzle 08-05-2012 09:15 AM

Yea the white seed is all over. But there's so myluch it almost seems like there is no where for the to land. We didn't spray to kill all of it just where the ducks would land

bgizzle 08-05-2012 09:15 AM

That's it duck butter
