I had a few people ask me for numbers on the BlackJack with the Yamaha SHO - so here they are! The boat was accidentally shipped with the wrong prop, so Kyle at Lake Area Marine had the correct one overnighted for me and I got to check it out today. Another big thanks to Kyle for getting me set up right. Once the boat is on plane the speed runs about even with the RPMs, for instance at 3500 RPMs I was running 35 mph. It cruised very nicely at 4000 RPMs doing 40-41 mph. Top end was 63.8 mph on GPS. The boat leaps out of the hole shot. I didn't have to touch the trim tabs and the boat was solid as a rock at WOT....not squirrely whatsoever. I was extremely impressed. If you're in the market for a new 4 stroke I definitely recommend checking out the SHO. It is a beast. The speed data I collected was with 1 person in the boat, all my fishing gear, and a half tank of fuel.

Glad to hear the new prop fixed the problem but I knew it would based on my performance in mine. By the way, where are you setting your jack plate?

Curious as to what your previous 3500 rpm(mph) numbers were with the original prop. What was your recorded RPM's at the 63.8 mph?

How much trimming and jacking (extreme amount or not much at all) did you have to do to reach this gps recorded speed?

I'll try to answer all the questions in this post. The prop I am running now is a 15-21p Yamaha Saltwater Series 2. The prop that the rig was accidentally shipped with was a 13 3/4-21p Yamaha Reliance Series. I am leaving the jackplate all the way down on the #1 setting. I experimented with the jackplate a bit and have found that running it all the way down yields the best performance. At WOT I am getting 6000 RPMs. With the previous prop at 4000 RPMs I was running about 32-33. Now with the correct prop at 4000 RPMs I am running 40-41. When I got it up to 63 no jacking was necessary - I left it all the way down, i did not use any trim tabs whatsoever, and I only trimmed the motor up a little bit to let the boat ride the pad. The boat is extremely stable at all speeds and is very easy to drive. I got in my first chop with it today and it has a sweet ride. I could trim tab down and let the bow cut the swells or I could go fast and get on top. Both ways rode extremely well. The only boat I have been in that has a better ride and that I like better in general is a Yellowfin (yes I have been in a few different Haynies multiple times.....lol). Oh and I did not have to swim back to the boat....my rope was in stealth mode.

With the current 21p prop and a gear ratio of 1.75, you should be able to get more speed. With more trimming and maybe a touch of jacking you should top out around 68 mph. Looking at the numbers it looks as if your current slip percentage is down around 7%. Very nice.

I've never heard of the Blackjack running that fast with the 250 SHO. Fastest I have heard is 65. I think I can get there with a lighter load (no real need to...63 is fast enough for me lol). Raising the jackplate the slightest bit slowed me down. I had the motor trimmed as high as it would let me go. I mentioned before I only trimmed it up a little bit but the motor doesn't really trim that high. I definitely had a rooster tail going but I guess I am just used to trimming a lot more on my old boat with a 25 inch shaft compared to the 20 inch shaft now. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I only have 6 hours on the motor and have only opened it up about 3 times. I don't know what the nature of this motor is as it breaks in but I don't think it's going to get much faster. I am extremely happy with my current setup. The cruise performance is exactly what I have always wanted for Big Lake.

Lol thank you. I got my first couple jig head scratches on it today. I wanted to cry. It's going to be tough keeping the black looking sharp but it sure is fun to look at when it's clean!

You are absolutely right there!!! But man does it look good when it's clean!!

That SHO is a bad dude.Ran mine alittle yesterday. 51 mph was the most I got at 5700. I see alittle more but it was alittle choppy while I was playing.
