Leaders???
Do any of you guys out there use leaders when you fish inshore? If so, what line do you use and what knot? I am old school mono (because I hate braid getting stuck in my reels) but I have been having a few line breaks on my hook sets lately so I was thinking I might try a leader.

I use a shock leader, if i'm using 12-14lb. test I'll add about 35-40lb. florocarbon. I use only mono also. I also change my line pretty often, buying line in bulk helps with this.

when we go after the big mommas (reds and specks) if we use our live bait:rolleyes: we use bout a 2 1/2 ft fluro 40 lb leader. and we lose very few. the pictures that i have posted in the past with ice chests full of reds and speck is what we catch

20 lb power pro with a 20 lb floro leader uni - uni knot
|
12-14lb mono with 30lb big game leader about 6". Got tired of break offs or retying due to fraying from teeth.
|
24 inch long 20 pound fluoro, blood or surgeon's knot to 10 lb clear mono mainline, loop knot to connect the lure, sometimes i use quick connects. (but i have my doubts about them)

20LB FLURO (berkly) with 12lb mono w/ uni knot....pissed right now b/c lost a big trout Sat. Think my uni failed...wading 2nd cast in a slick and BAM!! It ran and POW!! POED!!:pissed:

i had a big one break off this past march, i was pissed, first time using mono cost me a good trout. i don't think it was my knot tho.
|
I assume it was the knot, being as the fluro was gone, my buddy was next to me and all I could do is hold my rod over my head and curse...
