Has anyone been up north out of white oak park lately? Thinking about making a trip and was wondering how the water looked.

I've been fishing West Fork and lower main river, sorry

Fished just south of WO last Sunday... Water looked like Yoo-Hoo...

White Oak and north has been good for us...seem to get hold of better numbers, not necessarily quality (weight) fish...I dunno, heard about the same from others..

How do y'all compare westfork'ish area...midriver (watermelon, girlscout, etc..) and white oak and north??

Everyone has there own argument, but I prefer north river in spring and west fork in summer to early fall. I seem to find more weight in west fork this time of year.

How do u prefer to fish west fork? North of white oak we been catchin on red shad worms texas rigged and bigger fish on topwater

This year on Westfork has been an off year. For big fish it has been phenomenal. However the topwater bite has been nonexistent.
However, Westfork is ultimately good year around.

FYI, Westfork is pretty high and rising. Can't even get my marsh boat out of my canal.

You're right about the top water bite, I caught a 3.45 last month on a chug bug but that is pretty much all that is worth talking about. Keep trying but its just not working this year on the West Fork

Your right, to each is its own, but may I ask what months do you think are off?

Once it gets cold I start fishing for specks so I can't give honest answer about the winter, but come end of January or so when I get rigged back up for bass I think North river is better till end of April. So I would guess that even in the winter if I were bass fishing I would probably end up way up north, but thats a guess.

I fish mostly mornings... There is a section south of White Oak that I really like to fish year round, even more so in the Spring...

North of WO, we did much better last year than this year... If I would have to say why, it may be because the water isnt moving like I have been used to on the Calcasieu...

Sabine was stupid crazy last year... We fished it every weekend with great success...

Keep in mind, I'm not nearly as "mad" at the fish as I used to be... A good day for me is a couple of fish, a shady stretch of bank, and no emails or work calls for an hour or two...

January 1st I had one of my top 5 days on the calcasieu estuary, on the Westfork. The fish are there, just got to stay on them. Since then its been up and down. Just look at our dogfights. Not much of a tw bite compared to last year. We missed most of the spawn due to a flood.

January 1st last three years I've caught a limit of speck in about an hour with many of them being 4,5,6,7 lbs., and hardly any if any below 2 lbs. I would rather bass fish but every once in awhile you got to get some meat in the freezer.

Well I'm gonna fish outa white oak in the am ill let yall know how it shakes out....

I think u misunderstood my message... I wasnt sayn that i prefer WO.. I was asking how do u fish westfork? Bc i haven't had any luck there

Oh my bad. As everyone knows you got all the marsh drains, I will make a quick pass by them and if water is moving I'll try three or four baits in the calm waters to each side of them and if they are there its good to get a some numbers but not always size. If the drains aren't flowing I normally won't even stop, well there is one I will stop at, but just cause there is always a fish in on little spot next to it. After looking at drains I'll throw a squarebill crankbait around any hard bottom on deep side of river (pea gravel, broken concrete, bolders, etc). On a normal year top water is the go to big bite bait, but this year, on the exception of one fish, it has been the crankbait.
