Generator question

Do y'all honestly think to run 4ft long by 2 1/2 ft deep, deep freezer and possibly a tiny a tiny window unit that I would need a heavy duty ext cord? It just don't seem feasible to fight wal Mart hooligans for it unless y'all think it is

CaptainBG 08-28-2012 05:08 PM

I think it it should work

jdm4x43732 08-28-2012 05:12 PM

Keep it short as possible but it should work no problem.

Bluechip 08-28-2012 05:13 PM

I wouldn't think it would matter. I ran my fridge and freezer and a light off one cord and an ac and tv off another cord.

Keep it short. I made a few cords just for this.

Look for the ampere rating on the nameplates on both units and add em up. 14 ga. Extension cord is probably only good for 10-12 amps. Are you running them on a generator?

Big Flounder 08-28-2012 05:38 PM

I got the generator from sears in 08. It's a craftsman. They may sell the there.

Scratch the generator question. Just saw the title.

Should be ok..
Also, make sure your generator is running before you load it up......do not plug every thing into and then start it. From what I heard, you can blow something.

Just go to lowes n buy some romex, a few double gang boxes , outlets and a plug end and make a heavy duty cord . I take romex n plug it directly into the 220 outlet with 110 outlets on the end only using one leg of the 220 but it's a stronger breaker , but if u don't know what u r doing don't try it

Now that is a cord that would make Tim Allen go ArghhArrgh Arghh..I would think that would retail about $300. I just bought a 100' #10 cord for my gutter machine and it was $120...

x2. you can make a cord for half what they charge for those premade ones.

wtretrievers 08-28-2012 07:10 PM

A cord #12 or bigger should run both. What size is generator? Start up on a/c is what will be the problem if there's any.

If any you guys around BR area need a good heavy ext cord give me a shout. I have several.

BigChaf 08-28-2012 09:29 PM

Turn off main breaker, if you have a 220 volt electric dryer, buy a male plug that matches dryer recepticle, terminate male plug and match 220 volt plug to generator, after completion, all recepticals and electrical appliances will work, turn off all unnecessary appliances, central ac, electric stoves, etc., if you have a at least a 5000kw generator you should be in good shape. Good Luck

doughutchinson 08-28-2012 09:45 PM

You can also use you
Disconnect for out side ac unit
And if your ground and neutral bar in your panel are bonded together just wire a cord in to it just turn off your
Main first
