mercury 40 tilt assist
Friends tilt assist no longer works on merc 40hp. If took the assist off of motor how hard is it to tilt manually. Because right now he cant hardly lift it. A new is a $1000. Is it necessary to have that part to tilt up in the marsh.

Does anybody run a 40 merc with no trim at all(power trim or assist lift). thx

I've got the lift assist and it is starting to freeze up. I'm gonna have it rebuilt if the boat doesn't sell soon...Of course I only noticed this failure AFTER putting it up for sale! UGH!

It is not that bad. Stand up grab back of the motor.

You gotta practice it but like previous post grab the back of the cowling obviously the faster your going the harder its going to be. Check eBay they might have something

no
not a merc but i did have the same issue on a 40 evinrude, drilled out the bleeder so that it would move freely, the tilt assist still needs to be there to keep your motor from tilting to far in to your transome, and with it moving freely it wasn't that hard to pull up and if you hit something the motor would just bounce up, of course you won't be pulling it up while it is in gear, and you will loose almost all of your reverse power, find you a cmc jack plate, having trim sure is nice even on the smaller motors
