Flats and Bay Boats

Seriously considering riding out to FL this week to check this boat out. The hull looks to be in really good shape with a design and layout that I like, however I have never heard of a Flats and Bay brand name boat. Another thing holding me back is the 60HP Johnson. I know they were some pretty decent engines but it seems to me it may be a little under powered?

What does the Salty Cajun think?

For sure under powered. Overall a nice rig though. If he'd come down to $5000 that would make it a sweet deal.

The flats & bay made (3) models
1) 1660 (16'-6") built from 1997 thru 2005
2) 18 x 8 (18'-0") built from 1997 thru 2005
3) 23 (23'-6") built from 2001 thru 2005

I have a 2001 1660 powered by a DT 75 zuki. I've owned it since new. It is a great little boat. It is a great riding hull, the plastic hatches aren't the most ideal since the leak every so often. They also tend to crack but Daytona Plastic offers lifetime warranty on the hatches, so you just send them the broken hatch& they send you a new one for free.

Flats and bays had a bad batch of boats in the mid 1999. They subcontracted the hull manufacturing to an outside vendor where short cuts were taken. Flats and bay stood behind they and fixed the problems.

The flats and bay closed the door in mid 2005 due to lack of funds. In 2006, flats and bay found a new investor, moved to South Carolina and was renamed famous craft.

The famous craft are pretty well liked on the east coast...... didn't realize thats who preceeded them.

Famous craft is no longer, my fishing partner had one and was a great riding boat. The boat you are looking at is a 16ft'er. Having a 60 on it isn't too much of under power for the size a 90 is maxing it out more than likely, so a 90 will give you 5-10 more mph's. To go with a 16 you are saying you wanna fish shallower but not necessarily ate up with speed or making long runs. If your looking for a go faster boat, the 18 is for you and would be rated up to a 150.

I'm all about burning 4-5 gallons of gas and and coming back with my limit of reds.

I would throw him a low ball offer like 4300 and he will come back with something else or say come get it.

I really like this style of boat and think it would be great for a cross over boat since I live by great red fishing areas and also enjoy bass fishing on the lakes but I would like closer to a 20' boat with as many hp as possible

He's ready to deal on it only problem is my wife aint......and she has half the money & all........
