Wounded Warriors Hunt

Does anyone have a Lake Charles area contact for Wounded Warriors, I would like to bring a warrior on a goose hunt the second split, and may I say a BIG THANKS to the men and women for the service to their country, God Bless America.

I have the number to a wounded warrior that lives on Bun****s lake. Really super guy. I've had hom with on a wounded warrior fishing tournament and he's hunted gators with me. Send me a private message if you are instrested

Do a search on the site. There was a lady back in April or May advertising

That was me. I just e-mailed the soldier in Afghanistan who I was in contact with to see if he knows of anyone in the area. I also sent a message to Dan - the lawyer at Fort Polk who helps with the vets. Will let you know what I find out.

As a vet that counsels other vets I would like to remind everyone that not all wounds can be seen. PTSD and TBIs can be hard to see. There are ton of college students that sturggle with school due to war wounds. I just ask that you also concider them
too.

my brother in law is a wounded warrior from Iraq who lives in Lake Charles and is a big time hunter. He'd appreciate a hunt like this!

BigChaf,

My name is Dan Redwood and I am the attorney that represents wounded warriors during the medical board process at Fort Polk. If you or anyone else wants to honor any of our wounded warriors I can probably find some folks that want to hunt. Feel free to PM me to give me a few more details.

Saodma is right, some of the most devasting wounds are caused from traumatic brain injury and PTSD. Most traumatic brain injury is caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) blowing up Soldiers in vehicles. It is not uncommon for these young men to be blown completely out of a vehicle and land several yards away. Of course, many do not survive the impact, but those that do, even if they receive no shrapnel, have mental difficulties for years.

Let me know if I can help.

Dan

This is awesome

Scott Ritchey who owns Louisiana Outfitters takes this group goose hunting every year. You could contact him and he could give you there contact info. It is a great organization and I love to see them at the camp when they come to hunt.

BigChaf 11-28-2012 09:05 AM

I don't have a camp yet, working on one, but the drive from my house in south Lake Charles to the blind is only 35 minutes, I do have the luxury of dropping sports and gear off at the blind with a 3 foot walk to get in the blind, should not be any problem for a disabled soldier, hell the way it is now he could wear house slippers and not get dirty.

jchief 11-28-2012 10:25 AM

Chaf if I can help in any way with this, please let me know.

BigChaf 11-28-2012 12:00 PM

One of my vendors knows a guy that just got out of rehab in Alexandria, he was a career serviceman that caught an IED in Afganistan, was able to keep his arm, but is disfunctional, my vendor has known the guy all his life and as of now is my frontrunner. Like most people this is a non media event and something I want to do for a Local Hero just so they know somebody cares about their sacrifice to their country. It's going to be a great honor for me.

Thanks jchief, glad your out there, will contact if needed, thanks.

Well a selection has been made for the WW hunt. Me and Bigchaf are both on vacation the first week of second split so we will be hunting that monday, that way we have time to bring him again if we have a bad hunt. From what I hear he was very excited and grateful on the phone.
