Have your friend go to title company and get a new title.

Good Luck, maybe if the title had his name you can get a duplicate copy and have him sign it over with a notarized signature?

Register it as homemade...have a state trooper stamp a new serial # on it....had to do this for a trailer I got out of Texas

I was told if you get a homemade title the trailer cannot have any maufactured parts from a previous trailer? Plus they wanted a price sheet of what i paid in materials....

Yes, that is correct. The State Police don't stamp those trailers near as freely as they used to.

As said above, the original owner goes to Motor Vehicles. They pull up his records and the trailer should show the VIN number and license in his name. He the requests a duplicate title. When it comes in, he does the transfer to you.

Once you get it in your name, be aware that you must get your boat trailer inspected, just like your car. The inspection sticker is not necessarily attached to the trailer, but is kept on your person, along with your registration, ready to present to the officer who is asking for it. I think the fine is somewhere between $100 and $200 dollars.

I just had to do this when I sold by jon boat and couldnt find the trailer title.

Went to title place (Thib's Titles) and got a duplicate. Cost me I think $63 (cash or check only) and title shows up in a week. I did also have the registration for it that showed title number, but they should be able to look it up in the system.

Once new title comes in, get notary or title service to fill out info on back, yall sign, and you maill it off with the fee.
