Loc: Empire / Venice, La Got a call for a trip next week inshore. I decided to see how things have changed in the last few weeks. I have been fishing in Venice as the trout are thick in the river.

The day started out as expected. Being on the wrong tide and very little water movement I was not expecting much. It was already about noon so I only had a few more hours to fish. The air was in the low 70's and very little wind. If I had shrimp I would have done a lot better but I was not looking to fill the fish box.

Went past an area that always holds some good fish and explored a little further in. The rat reds were having a ball with my plastics. In the begining the purple and chartruse was the ticket but as the day went on the color changed to opening nite and chartruse. After a while I lost a white trout at the boat and then hooked up an undersized speckeled trout. I had a short run of specks and then it died but I got a 12 & 13 in the box to start my fish box off. At least the cats will eat tonight.

I spent the day moving around just playing. The highlite of the day came when I was useing a tandem rig for specks and testing different plastic color combinations. I hooked up with 2 bull reds at once. The begining of the fight they stayed together so I picked up the power pole and went along for the ride. If I had an anchor or some kind of devise I had to physicaly tend to I would have lost both of them and most likely all my line depending on where it would have broke. Push the up button hanging around my neck and the boat is free to go. Life is Good! I was useing the trolling motor to help me keep up with these guys. They decided to split and one of them broke the leader, I still had the other one on the line so things just got a little more reasonable. Tough but very exciting when things like this happen and I am alone.

I even managed to get some in the water action shots before putting some of it in the net. The first time I lifted it there was not enough weight in the net to lift him so I had to try to readjust my netting method while still holding the pole tight so the hook would hold.

This boy was 36 inches long and went 14 pounds. After the picture he went back to breed and maybe make my customer happy next week. Hope he told his buddies I am a good guy and release them http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthread...ault/wink2.gif

The winds picked up as the day went on so I came in way before sunset. This 17 incher was the biggest speck of the day.

For what this father and son are looking for I will be able to get it done in the Empire area.

Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
