Have a few "older" decks from past vehicles laying around in the shop. Thought it would be cool to transform one into a shop radio. Made the ice chest radio with no problem. Think this one is going to be "fun"

Also have a few old computers in the shed. Wanting to power a 250W amp, 2-6.5's and 2 8's. Think this can be done off a 110V power source ?

Need input also, Dont care for any degrading. Yes i can afford to go out and buy a radio, but anyone can do that.

You'll need a DC inverter. 110 volts ac will fry almost as fast as you can plug it in. I'm pretty sure that you can get an inverter that turns 110 ac into 12 volt dc.

I made an ice chest radio for a guy that went nuts years ago. Had right at 1000.00 into it. Sill build regular ones with 6.5's and such. I always stuck to 12v with an amp and charger.

Jordan, are you wanting to power it off of the power supply from one of the computers? I don't think the 12v rails would have enough amps to power the radio and a 250w amp, maybe just the radio.

yes Paul. Read on the net that a CPS (Computer power supply) pushes a little more than 20Watts. Was thinking of running the whole thing off a battery with a battery tender hooked up to it and plugged in permanently.

I think you need an electrical engineer.

The battery and tender will handle the complete setup. No need for the CPS.

Just get a 12v power supply, the computer power supply definitely won't be enough.
