Bow extension mount for fish finder

Anyone had any success or know anyone/ seen anyone mount an extension arm for having a fish finder at the bow which raises the fish finder to waist high?

Allison Boats made a small telescoping mount for their boats, which led me to believe that it could be done. http://www.allisonboats.com/content/...E-Ped-page.pdf

I tried to get a Ram mount ball with this extension arm http://www.kayalu.com/secure_server/...ml?cPath=47_65 along with a Lowrance cradle from Ram mounts, but the Kayalu rep called me to tell me my idea was not going to work out. The leverage would rip up my deck. And I would need some sort of tripod to support the weight even though it's only about 5 lbs, the leverage puts more force on the deck than that.

So, I still think there's a way. But I haven't seen it. Should I just give this idea up and do what everybody else does and just mount it either flat or a short arm?
