White Labs

Anyone duck hunt with them? I was wondering if they make ducks flare more than a black dog . My sister has a 6 month old with what seems to me ,a dog with huge potential .

Never hunted wit one but anything white around a duck blind stands out. With that being said, ducks seem to ignore dogs for some reason, geese are another story.

I think geese can see thier eyes blinking more that the coat.........seriously.

My spaniel has plenty white in his coat. birds seem to not be bothered.

A yellow lab would blend in well with salt grass. Thats what covers our blind.

Yellows blend well but any coat can be hidden with proper brush.

I had a very light yellow and never noticed a problem. Maybe a handful of hunts out of 1000+ in her life where I thought they might be flaring from her, but it could've just as easily been something else. Given the odds 4-5 out of say 1200, who cares.

I hunt with a white lab, who just had a litter if anyone is interested, and I've never had a problem with birds seeing her. She gets petty muddy before we start and blends rather well

Musta been a hellofadog to hunt 100 days a season for twelve years straight. Fortunately, I never keep one long enough to hunt one season with much less 12.

Dog years???

Raymond 02-08-2013 04:09 PM

Johnny, I just did the math. 100 hunts/yr x 12 yrs =1,200 right?
Most mine ever hunted was 05/06, Oct-Jan but he was on loan to an outfitter with ops in ND,Tx.

Sounds do-able to me.

Hall monitors :shaking::shaking:
I'd say very possible. Teal season hunt twice a day some days.
Dont hate just appreciate

Raymond 02-08-2013 10:09 PM

Mines was skinny as hell after 120 days and was glad to be done for awhile. Somebeech died the following September unfortunately!!

barbarian 02-09-2013 08:21 AM

Good catch. I honestly have no idea how I came up with that number. My head calculator misfunctioned on that one. She did hunt until she was 12 ish, but even counting goose season and morning/afternoon days she was probably closer to 350-400.

Are you kidding me. Since it is past the statue of limitations - we used to kill 8 limits a day since there were 4 of us. :rotfl:

Couldn't pass that up. Just kidding.

Color of the dog should be the last thing one should worry about in a hunting situation.
