Place for trotlines for catfish
We'll be hitting eastern LA over spring break, and my son has started to hint we might try something different than hitting the passes for big redfish and drum. We're talking about maybe running some trotlines for catfish. The saltwater has crept much further inland than when I was a boy in the 70's and 80's. Would Lake Maurepas, Salvador, or Des Allemandes still be as good as they were back in the day or has saltwater intrusion negatively impacted them? Which one would you pick for late March? Someplace better in SE LA? Any tips on showing my son a good time running a few trotlines would be greatly appreciated.

Maurepas and Des Allemandes are still pretty good. If the floods hit the MS this spring, like they normally do, I'll take him to do some great trot lining! The last time we ran, we would be baiting hooks and could feel the fish already hitting the baits behind us! Two friends and I took over 300 lbs of fish in 2 days!

Not sure about east la but if y'all decide to do west la Toledo bend is great for trot lining. We go a couple times a year and do really well. Live bream is the best bait.

Small shad that you can easily catch with a cast net. They catch a good bit of fish!
