stainless props

does anyone have a recommendation on a brand of prop to replace my aluminum prop. I found Solas has a more reasonable price than a factory replacement for tohatsu.

I am no expert, but give people an idea of how many HP your engine is, length of boat, type of boat, how much its typically loaded etc. and then some more knowledgeable folks on here can give you some recommendations.

It's a 1548 alweld w/tohatsu 40. 2 adults and a couple of ice chests so not much of a load

Yamaha black painted stainless 14p

Clafleur 03-11-2013 05:16 PM

The owners manual recommends a 12 or 13 pitch

Top Dawg 03-11-2013 05:18 PM

I ran a 14p yamaha on mine and it runs great. Doesn't have the hole shot of the 13 but the top end is pretty good.

AARON5082 03-12-2013 10:09 AM

Chris I have a 14p power tech if you wanna go try it out. I've heard alot of good things about the black painted yamaha props too.

Top Dawg 03-12-2013 10:32 AM

I have a powertech and it's not even comparable to the yamaha prop.

Is the boat heavy? I tried a 17 on mine, but boat was completely uncontrolable at 43......kept going airborne and wouldnt turn. Went down to a 14 and its perfect.....add aittle cup for the topend

Is that the black aluminum prop that comes on them? The yamaha prop make sure u get the black painted stainless

Spunt Drag 03-12-2013 09:15 PM

Yamaha Black Stainless Semi-Cleaver. They hold more torque than any other prop with a load.

Clafleur 03-12-2013 09:28 PM

Yes, it is a black aluminum prop. This is prob a dumb question but can i put a yam prop on a tohatsu?

Top Dawg 03-12-2013 09:47 PM

Yes. I have the same motor you have and have run the yamaha prop on mine several times.

spoony 03-12-2013 10:09 PM

Where is best place to get a yamaha prop for the money and what diameter with the 14

Top Dawg 03-12-2013 10:26 PM

I believe the diameter is 10-1/4" lake area marine has them I believe. But they're expensive anywhere u find one.
