new boat

What the opinions on a mako 17 skiff looks like a fairly inexpensive boat with a merc 60 alum trailer. just want to fish not make a fashion statement. i mean is it posible to catch fish just as good out of a mako than say a sheerwater, blackjack, etc...

Might just be me but the wording of your question seems like a pretty ignorant way to get feedback about a boat. Might wanna try again without potentially insulting a large percentage of boat owners.

They have a 08 18' nautic star in the classifieds in damn good shape. I would buy that before a mako any day.

DA COVE 06-30-2013 10:13 AM

I have a Blackjack and a Carolina skiff j16. Catch fish out of both!! But they have their purpose.. So don't compare them.

meaux fishing 06-30-2013 10:44 AM

there is a 01 kenner in the classifieds... that is a beast of a small boat. I used to have one. The new makos I have heard have issues with quality of workmanship and parts. I dont know from experience though just what I've heard

I saw that boat! Looks good! You should buy that Jim.

theres a pretty big following on 2Coolfishing.com about the skiffs with all the pros and cons. They look like neat little boats but I would definitely look into that Nautic Star before I bought anything in the 17-19' size

Dude, I will agree that some of the comments to your post are abrasive but you need to chill also or take it to the Gill Net.

Yes, it's possible to catch fish just as good out of that boat. Due to weather and seas you may not be able to fish as many days though.

Meaux i had a 04 kenner 18 damn fine boat. cattle biz went kinda crazy and didn't have time to fish. sold it to Mom and Pop i mean rods, reels life vest everything. kinda regret it but hey gotta take care of mom and dad right. so just looking to get back in it for as less as i can with a new boat

Montauk17 07-01-2013 12:49 AM

Just keep in mind that type of hull with beat you to death in a chop. I have a boat with the same style of hull and it is not comfortable in the open bays. Personally I would spend the extra money and get a 1810 nautic star. Podna of mine just bought one for right at 21k with a 90 yamaha. On mako's site that hull and engine sells for 16k....too much money for what you get in my opinion.

I personally prefer the Tidewater and Frontier 18' Bay Boats. They only weigh 1200 lbs and draft 8" according to their site. Hope this helps.
