Question about Offshore Work - Shell
 

My stepson has been told to apply to Shell. He just wants to get started working as a roustabout or any other position. When he looks online at Shell's web page, he does not see specifically for routabouts. The only thing he sees that looks like it might be a fit is "downstream production." Do you all think this is the most appropriate category or is there something else he should choose?

What exactly is he looking for?

roustabouts are entry level positions for drilling companies usually. Shell isn't a drilling company, but the operator that uses drilling companies. At least as far as I know, they might have roustabouts on the production side, but i'm not sure. Tell him to look at service companies, or www.rigzone.com for entry level openings, temporary job agencies also can get you some jobs in the oilfield.

We are only looking for technical skilled folks such as mechanics,eltricians ,production operators, eltronic tech.,s and CRO,s.Also some openings for tech. skilled associate degree in same to do internships then hired if they make good internships.

Tell him to apply with Noble drilling, Atwood oceanics.

X2 I work for Noble Drilling and on a Shell contract. We are always hiring roustabouts especially right now cause we have 3 more new drill ships coming out. Tell him to call the office in Sugarland and ask to speak to one of the recruiters that handles the roustabouts.

unless you are connected or are a relative in a key position, shell, or any other major oil company doesn't hire people with no oilfield experiance. Too many experianced people out there who would jump at the chance. they usually fill up the superdome with applicants when they have a job fair.

most folks have to get a job working for a third party contractor and be at that job for a while before they can expect to be considered as a potential candidate.

if he is a petroleum or other type engineer that mught be differant.

Roustabout job or service hand job is alot easier to get. wireline/slickline, P&A, coil tubing, wellhead, fast-torque, mwd/lwd and other trades are always eager to get good hands. Allot of folks hire on, but don't stay long enough to learn the trade.

Agree wth latravcha, i own a Safety consulting company and it will have its ups and downs. 1 hurricane can change everything in a day!
