2004 Tohatsu 25hp...calling all mechanics
1 Attachment(s)
Motor started overheating during duck season, I changed the impeller and never run it. Went to run it the other day and same problem. Checked the water jacket and its free, even tried shooting water and 100psi air through pisser line backwards then checked pickup for trash with no luck. First questions any Tohatsu gurus in Sulphur, Lake Chuck area...and second what is this bolt/plug for under the cowling...third how do I pull this damn motor off the prop shaft/cowling/lower unit? Thanks

Check thermostat

If the thermostat fails, won't it open too soon and keep the motor from warming up when cold?
|
Was thinking that I was told before that it doesn't have a thermostat...if that isn't the case where is it?
|
I have an '02 15hp tohatsu & it has a thermostat
|
Just found a different diagram and it shows a thermostat, I'll check it this week

Also the thermostat could be bad and not opening at all.

If the thermostate is really dirty, a water hose will get most of the "crud" off.
But to really clean it.....boil it. You will be supprised at how much more stuff comes loose when the thermostate opens. It should start to open [~ 190 F] when little bubbles start to form in the pot. |
Gut the thermostat and let that baby flow! Cut the guts off the backing plate with some cutting pliers and install the backing plate back in the housing. Had a 25 merc I would pump straight mud through it and would not overheat. To me a thermostat is useless on a 2 stroke outboard in south louisiana.

I am running a merc 225 pro max and I don't have either the thermostats or popping valve in it.

Cajun Christian is very good with those Tohatsus. That's who I would want to look at it if it was mine.
