Used boat prices

How can I find the value of a used boat for free? I am looking at a 95 champion bass boat with a 2006 optimax 225. Both are in excellent shape with the motor only having 126 hours on it. All of the nada and blue book sites I go to get me nowhere! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1995...0036660/Values

NADA guides has a blue book value for boats.. i did this one as an example of value for a 19ft 1995 champion boat... (have no idea if this is your boat)... .this estimated price includes boat & engine.. not sure if it means including trailer or not... I think the "value" is what the boat went for brand new with 200hp engine. the low and average retail reflect what its worth now....

hope this helps.

upon further inspection the site says that the value include boat, motor, trailer, and trolling motor... so values are for the whole deal.

Thanks man just trying to figure out if 14500 is a good price for this model boat?

AceArcher 08-02-2013 11:56 PM

is the motor brand new or something? because if its the original motor (ie. the motor is as old as the boat) then 14500 isn't good... it's highway robbery.

Also you never said how big the boat is ? 18,19,20 plus ??? what model... etc.

I was just using the above as an example.

crap.. .just noticed that you said it was a 2006 optimax and not the original motor.

And it's a 20 ft in mint condition single console

AceArcher 08-03-2013 12:03 AM

alright so 2004-2008 merc 225 optimax sell for anywhere between 5000-8500 on sites like ebay... (going to vary based on condition & hours)

Value of the boat itself without motor is probably 2500 or so....... If the boat is real clean and in outstanding shape it might be worth going 10-12k or so... not sure if i would want to give 14 for it.

But you gotta be the one that decides.

how many hours on the motor?

speckman29 08-03-2013 12:06 AM

It has hydraulic steering, hydraulic jackplate, 80 pound minn Kota trolling motor, a tandem axle trailer with new bonks, and all new hardware, plus new hubs. It also has a low range fish finder on the front with a flasher on the console. It has blinker trim and hydraulic jack plate controls.

126 hours on motor

AceArcher 08-03-2013 12:15 AM

so pretty low hours on the motor, and all the bell's and whistles...... and sounds like it's been well maintained.

To me i would be pushing the 12-13 area... but i like to haggle..... He's in the right "ballpark" but he's is a bit on the high side.

I guess i would say that if i got it for 12 i would feel like i got a great deal... at 13 i think it would be fair... at 14 i would feel that i got a little bit taken... but might be worth it if its very cherry.

Does not matter how clean a boat looks, take it to a mechanic and have them check the engine out, transom, and in the hull.

Good point.... at a minimum check the compression on each cylinder to make sure that all of them are within tolerance and make sure the engine is running well. Also pull the gearcase oil plug and ensure that the oil is not milky which means a seal is going bad on your gearcase, Spin the prop to see if there is any wobble which will indicate a bent prop shaft. do a thorough inspection of the transom & hull to see if there is any rot. (look for any bulges on the transom, tap it lightly with a ball peen to listen for any hollow sounding spots (which indicate rot))

Way over priced.. Lots of wood in those boats.. I'd say 9k is max. And that would be with lots of inspection..
