fishing w/o boat at henderson

I have heard of the locks at henderson where you can bank fish.
I know there is a spillway a few miles down the levee But have heard of folks getting trespass tickets there
Where are the locks and is it legal to fish there?
Any other places to try from the bank? Looking to go this after noon or tomorrow.

Seems like we all call it the "locks" but its really just a gate that they open and close and its the structure that you are talking about. I don't know if its posted or not but I have seen people fishing from the bank there.

the locks are the first road up the levee past Butte La Rose...you can see it on google maps..last time i went everyone was catching gar and nothing else...you could also try the bank at the Butte La Rose bridge, although you might get hung up if fishing bottom...there is also a pier at the Bayou Benoit landing, you are gonna have to park on the other side of the levee tho

So the locks are past the butte la rose bridge? That is where folks were getting tickets for being inside a knocked down fence.

Pretty much anywhere along the levee and locks has no trespassing signs.

buddybeagle 08-10-2013 08:37 PM

hmmm, there was never any fence when i went there. Now, it has been a couple years since i was there, but i've never heard anything about a fence.

buddybeagle 08-10-2013 08:40 PM

the last time i was there, 2 vehicles showed up filled with about 10 people and 30 rods. the kids all were catching gar and the dad had a cleaning table and cleaning them as they caught them

The place i am talking about has a building and the area has a fence that is knocked down. big concrete structure across the bayou. Is that the locks?

CajunSaint 08-10-2013 08:45 PM

I've never heard of it being private!! If you drive on the levee that will get you a ticket thoh.

buddybeagle 08-10-2013 08:54 PM

ok, i see the fence and building you are talking about on the map...the fishing is to the right of that.

I thought the same thing untill I got a ticket for trespassing earlier this year in ramah. Sheriff said all the land along the levee is private. They never enforced it much untill people started tearing it up with atv's with big tires and trucks. Pisses me off cause I would launch a small flat off the levee this time of the year to get to areas nobody else can. :pissed:

When you are on levee rd pass the bridge and watch the power lines they cross the rd at the locks can't miss it... I have seen people have trouble climbing back up from locks side so if its wet or rainy keep an eye on things

If you tried the locks now you'd be wasting your time. When the water gets a little higher and flows over you may catch some bass or sac a lait...But as of lately it seems like gar have taken over that spot
