Catfish and gar at Carnarveron
Took the grandkids to set out some jugs. They had a blast! We caught some beautiful catfish from 2-3 pounds to 20 pounds. There were plenty to be had. With both gar and catfish, the bigger the bait, the bigger the fish we'd catch.
We did better this time with the gar. Last time we didn't land one. They'd straightened every hook they hit! We were prepared with some much heavier hooks this time. This time we put about 5 large gar in the boat.http://www.saltycajun.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif My family would just as well have fried gar patties mixed with some potato and a lot of shallots and garlic powder. I am gonna fix some like my mom used to. She'd scrape the fish with a spoon to make flakes and make gar balls in red gravy and when she made gar balls with brown gravy, she'd add gumbo crabs to the pot. |
Where is this place ?

Carnarveron is a sweet place. Bass, bream, catfish, flounder & reds all in one stop.

The launch has a yearly fee to "join" Delacroix Corp. It is worth triple the cost. It is located right up against the river, on the east bank, right on the border between St. Bernard and Plaquemine parishes.
Otherwise, you must launch at Delacroix Island and drive around. Still worth it. |
