Finally got summoned for Jury Duty. Dont know much more than it is a Civil case and I have to be there on 10-21-13 @ 0830.

Any tips, tricks, hints ?? Anyone actually "like" jury duty ??

settle out of court and then you'll be informed and won't even have to show up! I think that's the best scenario.....I mean, what normal working person with a decent job wants to be stuck in court making the paltry $12-$15 a day or whatever it is they're paying these days....

im off that day, so its not going to really bother me.....

Unless it goes into another day and, the one after that. Next thing you know, you'll feel like you were a jury member on the OJ case!:rotfl:

Double check on your letter and see if they want you to call the friday before to confirm that they haven't settled yet. Happened to me two months ago.

Most jury duty here is for a week.

I have jury duty the same day. Just received the letter yesterday.

I have been on a roll the last decade. My name has been pulled like 4 times. Went again just last week. Called me out of the big group. They had 48 of us in the courtroom and picked 12 I think. I got cut. LOL. Out of the 4 times, all 4 got called out of the big group. Twice on the actual jury and twice cut. The time before this one, I was actually the jury foreman in a civil suit. The other jury was a criminal. I can only tell you that there seems to be a trend that the harder an individual tries to talk himself out of the situation with the lawyers, the more they seem to choose those people. I don't mind it at all honestly. A free day away from the 300 phone call and crazy customers at work.

I have been pulled twice in 30 some odd years. Both times u got out if it because if work. that said, they don't let you off that easy now. Who knows, may get put on an arson case.

A few years back my wife got tagged for criminal jury duty. Just happened that the gut on trial was the younger brother of a guy my friend shot and killed in a police shoot out. Once she let it be known that the defendents brother was shot and killed by her husbands good friend she was quickly released from duty.lol

Walk in wearing a NRA belt buckle and a fake tattoo on the side of your neck. Tell them that you are hardcore pro death penalty and that you think the justice system is way too soft.

Any or all of the above will get you excused

Politely ask the Lawers how you are supposed to be objective when you are effectively being fined so that some money grubbing gold bricker can ask the government to give them cash they did not earn. That should do it.

I've heard a story of a guy pulling that and the judge ordered him to 40 or so hours of anger management and asked if he wanted to try again.

I've been called to jury duty twice, both criminal, both times they pleaded guilty before it went to trial so i didn't have to do anything.

My dad was put on a list for a federal grand jury. He had to travel to New Orleans from Houma everyday for 13 days to serve on a lawsuit. They ended up awarding the guy millions of dollars but found him at 85% fault so he didn't get a ton of money.

To me if I get selected I feel it's my duty as an American Citizen to serve. Just like voting, it's my DUTY to vote. If someone were to harm one of your family members and be brought to trial for it would you want a jury of 11 people who don't want to be there?

I agree with this. I know it is far from perfect but our right to be judged by a jury of our peers is one of the pillars of our constitution and an important right to all of us as U.S. citizens.

Honestly I would not mind serving on a jury at least one time in my life. Maybe not for a case where I have to decided if a man will go to jail for the rest of his life or not, but I am interested in seeing our judicial system in action.

And yes, it is our duty as an American citizen.

Past generations were called by our government to go overseas and go to war for out great country. Going sit in a courtroom for a couple of weeks doesnt seem thay bad when you look at it thay way.
